February 10, 20179 yr I cannot open the web interface to my unRaid server. Attempting to do so brings up an user name and password dialog box. I don't know how this happened as I have never used these security measures. what do I need to do to regain access? However, I can use file explorer to access the drives and files
February 10, 20179 yr Try pulling the flash drive and put it in another computer. Go to the config directory(folder) and rename the passwd and shadow to something different. (I would just add .old to each one.) Put the flash drive back in the server and restart the server. The reset your root password and don't forget this time.
February 10, 20179 yr Author Thanks for replying.I changed the name of the two files and that seemed to do the trick. I have never used a password and did not purposely generate one prior to this problem. I am running ver 6.2.4 and have never been asked for a password before, so I was surprised when I was asked for a username and password. Evidently, I did something of which I was not aware. Anyway, problem solved. Thanks

Without password protection, you should realize by this point that anyone who has access to your network (using a computer or any other smart device) has access to your unRAID GUI. (In fact, I would not be surprise if that was the way that a password was setup for your server!) If they are malicious, your server setup is toast. If they are just ignorant but inquisitive, they can still cause serious problems.
