Getting notifications of when your server goes down

Featured Replies

Anyone have any advice on what is the best way to get a notification if your server goes down for any reason?

Obviously you can't use a script on your server since it won't be functioning to send this.

If you have a webserver running on your server then you could use a service in the cloud like Pingdom to send you notifications.

You could also have a script on another PC on your LAN try to ping your unRAID server every few minutes and then send you an email if the server doesn't respond.  But that requires another PC running 24/7.

What do others do?

Good question.

And there are various degrees and categories of "down" that might require different detection methods.
