Parity errors and disk read errors

Featured Replies

I recently got finished rebuilding my server with some 8TB archive drives.  Since then I have done a few parity checks and it's having errors.  Also, just check the log and saw read errors on disk 5.  Do I have a bad disk already?

You're getting uncorrectable errors on that disk, so yes it does look like a disk problem, there are no pending sectors so not necessarily bad sectors, run an extended SMART test on that disk.

PS. Next time post the complete diagnostics, syslog and SMART for all disks is included as well as more info.

That means that there are no current bad sectors, so the reads may be failing due to ECC errors or other issues, if it was a one time thing I'd say keep it but with multiple uncorrectable errors I wouldn't really trust that disk anymore.

Error 266 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 408 hours (17 days + 0 hours)

When the command that caused the error occurred, the device was active or idle.

After command completion occurred, registers were:

ER ST SC SN CL CH DH

  -- -- -- -- -- -- --

  40 51 00 ff ff ff 0f  Error: UNC at LBA = 0x0fffffff = 268435455
