APC Daemon will not start after mystery hard powerdown

Featured Replies

My server powered off while I was work today, It's currently running a parity check.

I have no idea why it powered off, I do have a UPS, its a larger APC, but on reboot I noticed the APC UPS Daemon will not start and I get the following in my log:

Feb 14 17:00:23 Zelda apcupsd[27454]: apcupsd FATAL ERROR in smartsetup.c at line 70#012Cannot open UPS port : No such file or directory

Feb 14 17:00:23 Zelda apcupsd[27454]: apcupsd error shutdown completed

Feb 14 17:01:28 Zelda apcupsd[28590]: apcupsd FATAL ERROR in smartsetup.c at line 70#012Cannot open UPS port : No such file or directory

Feb 14 17:01:28 Zelda apcupsd[28590]: apcupsd error shutdown completed

I am on 6.3.1, what can I do to troubleshoot the dirty shut down and fix the APC service?

EDIT: I got it to start, I had selected APCSmart instead of USB, it works with USB.

How do I determine what caused the power off, and shouldn't the UPS service start automatically?
