Dual Xeons. Have I assigned the correct cores??

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm having doubts about my dual xeon configuration when assigning cores to each VM. In the screenshot attached, have I assigned "CPU 1" to one VM, or have I mistakenly assigned alternating cores from both Xeons? Ignore the label "Player 2", I've been tinkering with cores.

My system setup:

Mobo: Z9PE-D8 WS

CPU: 2 x Xeon 2370

RAM: 32GB DDR3

Storage: 5 x WD RED 5TBs

2 x 250 SSD dedicated for VMs only

I would appreciate any insight. Thanks.

I would not assign cores 0,1 as unRAID likes to use those for itself, otherwise I am not sure if your core pairing is correct.

No. That doesn't look right at all.

Have a look at the Dashboard page of the WebUI since it displays cores paired. Typically it would be Core 0 paired with Core 16, and Core 1 with Core 17 ... and Core 15 with Core 31. That's how my Dual Xeons are paired.

Thanks to the OP for posting this.  I just changed mine, on a Dual Xeon setup as well and assume this is correct (sharing for others):

That's how I have mine setup, my single core/two thread VMs run just fine this way... at least as long as I have the correct core/threads assigned as the PCIe lane as the GPU.
