Cheapest unRaid Build?

Featured Replies

I work at a computer shop so I have been fortunate enough to acquire a lot of parts for free in order to build by unRaid server.

The only things I have had to buy are the bracket for holding a 2.5" & 3.5" HDD in the ODD bay, an eSata to Sata cable, 4gb of ECC memory and a 120gb SSD. The 4 RE2-GP drives are out of an old server, they have 3 years 9 months of power on but they cleared fine, the parity drive has less hours on it with only 6 months.

The specification in my signature has only cost me £37 + the cost of unRaid basic.

It does everything I want it to, even though the CPU isn't up to transcoding, I'm fortunate enough that my devices use direct play though Plex.

Very happy with it.

Nicely done! However, I think there may be some who have built unRAID servers completely out of spare parts not spending a thing!

My backup server was just spare parts leftover after upgrading various parts of my main server at various times. Of course, I have upgraded a few parts in my backup server since I first built it from those spare parts.
