SMART errors on parity drive

Featured Replies

I've been getting my butt kicked by SMART errors recently. Had one drive recently all but give up the ghost, just went through a scare with another, and now my new (used) parity drive is giving me grief. Must've happened within the last few days, but I've got a "reallocated sector count" of 2, and a "reallocated event count" of 2. What am I looking at here?

Same deal as before....   continue to monitor, if they keep going up you might consider replacing the drive..... my cache drive went to 168 reallocated sectors before I replaced it, I certainly would not let my parity drive go that high however.... :)

It's my understanding the reallocated sectors and events are the bad ones, no?

Pending is probably worse since that means data was unable to be read. ie something was lost.

Reallocated means the data was written, but on a spare sector.

As mentioned, continued increases are worrisome. This drive is only a few weeks old, was it precleared? Preclear normally gets all the early defects located and out of the way.

If the array is not busy, maybe run a long test.

Overall, the parity drive is like any other, it's failure does not result in data loss. It does get more writes.

Not new new. But it used off eBay. Still has ample warranty left, though. And it passed preclear before going in the array.

Currently running a parity-sync (added a new drive and re-config'd). Both errors counts have increased from 2 to 12.

EDIT: Finished sync, increased to 13 errors. Tried an extended self-test, failed immediately.

Bump.

Got a concerning "click" when I spun up the drive this morning.
