Network NAS

Featured Replies

Does unRaid support Network NAS? I have a Netgear NAS that stores my TV Shows for Plex and wanted to test unraid on my main server. I want to know if I plugin my NAS unraid can pick it up?

Hi -

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but... unRAID *is* a NAS solution.  It also supports virtualization.  It's an alternative to Netgear NAS.  unRAID won't pick it up, but unRAID and your Netgear NAS will be able to see each other on your network if you want to move files between them, etc.

Does that help?

You can do plugins or dockers also.

And, for example, if you have Plex Media Server running as a docker on unRAID, you can add your Netgear NAS files to the library either by SMB mounting the Netgear using Unassigned Devices plugin, or just by having Plex include SMB locations in the library.

FYI, Network NAS is not really a term, as the N in NAS is for Network.  So Network NAS would stand for Network Network Attached Storage.  Any NAS is networked.

unless you forget to plug in the network cable(s)! (been there done that more times than I care to admit ...)
