Which "out of the box" controller should I buy?

Featured Replies

Hello guys

I'm looking for a out of the box working sata card. Cards I was looking at but not sure if they do work "out of the box":

HP 220 (8x SATA): 90$

Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8i (8x SATA): 50$

Briked two H310 so I dont want to bother any longer...

Thanks

I've bought hp H220 cards from 2 different vendors and they worked out of the box.

Thanks for the response, how are they speedwise?

Where abouts did you find the HP cards ? And by out of the box do you mean they will work without flashing ???

Bought off ebay. "out of the box" meaning I look them out of their box, put them in the server, and they did their thing.

I've never hit the bottleneck on them moving data on/around the server except for one caveat listed below, and that deals with only SATA drives only connecting at 3Gbps. For most people/scenarios using unRaid, this won' matter much since they will be limited by gigabit lan speeds anyways.

H220 manual with specs: https://media.dustin.eu/media/206041/h220-host-bus-adapter.pdf

Technical Specs:

6 Gbps SAS (Serial Attached SCSI)
3 Gbps SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) <---- this may be important if you are planning on maxing single SSD speeds.
