March 13, 20179 yr Hi Guys, Apologies if this is not the right forum, now my kids are getting older I want to introduce some security on shares so they cant access our work files etc. I have spun up a windows server 2016 DC as a VM. I was wondering about using this to control access to shares as it woudl then also secure house hold pcs. Not sure if it would work though - how does UNRAID handle active directory - does it need it to boot up or only when people access shares as am congnizent of the face that the VM wont be there when it boots. Any better ideas if this doesn't work? Thanks in advance Stuart
March 14, 20179 yr There is a chicken and egg problem presently with this in that unRAID wants to join the domain before VM services are started, so having your DC as the VM doesn't really work right.
March 14, 20179 yr Author That's what I thought - I just wondered if anyone had tried it and unraid waits a bit to join....clutching at straws I know as I really don't want any more hardware :-)
March 15, 20179 yr Author Another thought - would it be possible for unraid to delay joining the domain for say 60 seconds as part of boot up until the VM is active?
