unRAID crashing/locking up after about 24 hours consistantly

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have an issue with my unRAID server at the moment and not sure what it could be.

It has started locking up, as in, no SSH, no web GUI and no local console either which means I have to do a hard reset each time (basically each morning when i wake up).

The only thing I have changed lately is added another small 500GB HDD but apart from that I haven't touched it.

Would someone mind looking at my diagnostics and syslog from FCP plugin and hopefully someone can spot something.

Have never had an issue with unRAID up until now so really looking forward to getting this issue resolved.

Any help appreciated. Cheers

Although I'm not an expert, I didn't see anything in your diags after a quick look. I always start my trouble-shooting from the last thing I did. What have you put on your 500GB drive? You can attempt to move the drive to another sata port, if that doesn't help, I would move any files I put on that drive to another drive and remove the drive from the system. Check to see if the problem goes away. Once I ruled the newly added drive I would start with a memory check.

You could also trying hooking up a monitor to the server and see what is on the screen after a lock-up.  If it is anything unusual, take several pictures.  Check them and find a good one that can be easily read (in-focus, not blurry and no flash reflection to obscure the text).

Also check to see if you have anything setup to run overnight.  If so disable them one at a time and see what happens.

Run at least a single pass of memtest (ideally multiple passes)

Re-open the server and make sure nothing is amiss (cables preventing fans from spinning, etc)

Well it is ok this morning. It did do its scheduled weekly parity check this morning so not sure if that stopped it from locking up. Will see what today/tomorrow brings.

It wouldn't

Mem test ran with no errors. Only did one pass though. Will swap out sata cable to the newest hard disk I added the other day and see if that helps.

Just updating this thread, I have since limited writes to all my ReiserFS disks as suggested in similar thread and I haven't had a lock up since. Fingers crossed and time for some XFS conversions!

So just updating this thread again. I have now changed all data disks to XFS with a hope this would fix my issue. Unfortunately it hasn't and i'me still locking up at about 3:00am in the morning. I have attached diagnostics again with the hope someone can spot something. Is there anything else I can do? Should I roll back unRAID to previous release and see what happens?
