Data not evenly spread across disks

Featured Replies

Hi,

I set up multiple shares in which I specified 2 disks (Disk1 and Disk2) to include  and 2 disks (Disk3 and Disk4) to exclude (because these are SSD I want to use specifically for my VMs).
But all the data seems to be on Disk1 and nothing on Disk2, am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Cyrille

Yes, you aren't reading how it works.

Also, take the ssd's out of your array. You gain nothing by them there as they are limited by the speed of the wd red drive serving as your parity. That means they are slower.

Put the SSD's into the cache slot, run you vm's from there.

Thank you very much 1812, I should have read more before setting things up, I was too excited I guess :)

It's easy to miss and want to hurry up and get it all going. But then you'll miss out on optimizing and getting most out of your rig!

Also, there is never any good reason to put both include and exclude, you should only do one or the other. Include means ONLY these drives, Exclude means EXCEPT these drives.

And High Water is the default for a good reason. It is a compromise between spreading your files out and frequently switching disks.

Thank you both of you, I'll leave it to "High Water Mark" then and I'll assign the SSDs to the cache pool.
