server won't boot

Featured Replies

So I went to reboot my server and now it won't come back up.  I can connect to it through IPMI but the web GUI and telnet won't work.  Telnet doesn't seem to connect with the IP and watching it boot up it doesn't seem to actually boot to unraid, I just see the SuperMicro logo and then nothing.  Any ideas?

Boot order in bios? Corrupted Flash Drive?

I should also mention after the SuperMicro logo it then just goes to a blinking cursor.  I will check the bios boot order hopefully tonight, I need to get a USB keyboard.  Just not really sure how the boot order would have changed, I'm afraid it might be a corrupted flash drive.

Do you see anything displayed on the console below the SuperMicro logo just before the screen goes to the blinking cursor?

Here are some screen shots of what I see in order, then just a blinking cursor that show up in the upper left side of the screen, no pic of that

Why would you need a keyboard? You have full local console control through IPMI.

I would first get into the bios and record your current settings.  Now use the Default settings and see if it boots.  If it does then turn back on each setting you had until you find one that won't let it boot.

I'm not really that great at using IPMI, I can start and power it off other than that not very experienced at it.

I will look at it tonight when I get home.  Just don't understand why it would have changed, I didn't touch anything but things happen

It can change on it's own if the battery on the MB is bad/getting low but there are probably other causes such as an electrical surge for instance.

No guarantee this is it but it is a trouble shooting step you can do to eliminate a possible cause of inability to boot the PC.

I'm back online, not sure what happened but somehow it was trying to boot to one of the data drives and not the flash drive.

Thanks for the help

Sounds like your bios was being helpful.  The data drive probably became disconnected at one point.  When you connected it again your bios was being helpful and set it to the boot device for you.  Just my guess of course.
