New Unraid system questions

Featured Replies

Hello. I am building a new unraid system mainly for Storage & Backup use. The thing is I have an older unraid 4.7 system that I don't want to keep. Actually I would like to move the data from that to the new system. My question is should I upgrade the usb stick from 4.7 to 6,... and use it for in the new system and then just move the contents of the old unraid HHD to the new system? Does this sound right?

Thanks

I'd go about it a little differently if I were you. Instead of breaking down the old system right away, I'd build your new system with a fresh USB loaded with a trial version of unraid, and test all your new drives and components that way. After you are confident that the new system is working well, and all your data is safely copied, then if you want you could copy the contents of the trial USB without the trial key file to your licensed USB stick making sure to keep your license file, or if you want to, you could move your license key file to the new stick with all the new setup intact and migrate your license to the new stick. Either way the old system remains intact and usable while you are testing the new system and copying your data.
