March 19, 20179 yr Hi, I've already prepared the UNRAID thumbdrive - this was simple. Before I continue I want to make sure what I'm doing makes sense or has an actual purpose. I have a [regular]-gaming PC - we'll call that machine ASGARD. (i5-7600k, GTX 1050 ti) On ASGARD, I want to run an UnRaid with a Windows 10 Virtual machine on it. This VM we'll call "MIDGARD". Now, I'd like MIDGARD to start only when a command has been sent/given on ASGARD. Why do i want to do this? I want MIDGARD to act as a second machine to allow my son to play Steam on the TV using the Steam Link. This device would essentially mirror MIDGARD on the TV, while allowing other family members to use ASGARD for simple computing (internet browsing). If UnRaid isn't the right tool for me, can you point me in the correct direction? Can I do what I've described here? Allow 'MIDGARD' to be off, unless I turn it on (or the LINK wakes it on LAN). Also - Now that the thumbdrive is bootable - do I optimize ASGARD's BIOS as described in the video's and activate the thumb-drive to boot before my main WINDOWS? Edited March 19, 20179 yr by Jbcarey
March 19, 20179 yr I'm not entirely clear. Are all of these machines supposed to be on one physical machine (i5-7600k, GTX 1050 ti)? You must boot unRAID, and any other OS you want to run on that same physical machine must be a VM.
March 19, 20179 yr You don't mention anything about NAS. unRAID is a NAS with virtual hosting capabilities. If you don't want a NAS there are other possibilities for virtual hosts besides unRAID.
