March 20, 20179 yr Hello all. Been doing a lot of research on freenas and unraid. My goal is to build a solution that provides storage for a plex server or kodi and provided time machine backups for macs around the house. The thing I'm confused the most about is the docker thing and if everything is just running in a VM. I would like to build a high- end server and have everything ran in that environment. Thank you
March 20, 20179 yr you can run certain apps like plex in docker without having to commit the resources of running an entire virtual machine to use it.
March 20, 20179 yr Author So does a app in docker still have access to full resources like plex for full transcoding if i needed it.
March 27, 20179 yr FreeNAS v10 will be switching to dockers from what I understand. It's the same concept as jails in that they are not full VMs. The main difference in deciding which you want to run are: FreeNAS - ZFS unRAID - Virtual machines and Gracenote support for Plex ...aside from those, either should support what you want to do.
