I the wiki it states to change the XML to use so you are able to boot into the OS to install the VirtIO drivers. Wouldn't the idea then to be to shutdown the VM, change the XML back to VirtIO and boot with the newly installed drivers?

 

Or am I misunderstanding the purpose of the VirtIO drivers?

    Can you link me to the wiki article in question?  I believe what you were looking at was in regards to converting an existing physical installation of Windows into a virtual machine.
