March 23, 20179 yr Version:6.3.2 I had an unusable parity disc and was running low on space so purchased 2x 8TB WD Red drives. Both were given long SMART test while in their old WD Enclosure. Both successfully passed preclears. One drive was to be used for parity and the other to replace 2x 3TB drives. I was able to mount the 8TB WD Red problem drive and transfer the data from the older 2x 3TB drives. I then stopped the array and reboot. At this time I also added a spare Seagate 6TB When attempting to added the 8TB Red drive it was throwing write errors when trying to mount it as Disk 7. Is there anything I can do to get the data back? Thanks in advance tower-diagnostics-20170323-2151.zip
March 23, 20179 yr Community Expert Disk7 dropped offline immediately after array start, power down, check cables, power back on, try to start the array, if still unmountable grab and post new diags.
March 23, 20179 yr Author Thanks for the reply. Checked cables and all seemed ok. Switched the power and sata on it with another disk to be sure. New diagnostics attached tower-diagnostics-20170323-2234.zip
March 23, 20179 yr Community Expert Now you're getting errors on disk3, is that the one you swapped cables? If yes that's a bad cable (or less likely a bad port).
March 23, 20179 yr Author Yes. I did switch cables with Disk 3 as that disk is currently empty. I will try a new sata cable and see how I get on
March 23, 20179 yr Author It was a faulty sata cable. Thanks for your amazing help. You saved me an incredible amount of stress, Now onto this parity drive...pronto
