Move Docker and AppData to Cache

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new with a real noob question.

I finally got a two 240GB SSDs and installed them today on my unraid server for cache.

My desire is to use this cache for "cache" and also my docker app and maybe a VM down the road.  To move my existing appdata and docker I read the thread here but I must be misunderstanding something.

I opened the shares appdata and system and set "use cache disk"=Only (each was prefer before).  So I did set both shares to "only".

Then I went to the main tab and pressed the button "move now".  And nothing happened.  I looked at the utilization of the cache and it is still 0%.  But the size of system currently is 22GB in it so the utilization of my cache should be like 18%ish (not 0%).  So obviously I'm doing something wrong?

So I rebooted and fix-common-problems is telling me to use "the dolphin / krusader docker applications to move the offending files accordingly"... and before I screw up something I wanted to ask.  What did I do wrong or can someone link a step by step?

With the docker service stopped, cache:prefer should move to the cache drive. Did you stop the docker service before you hit move?

He said he changed them from prefer to only even though the link he gave said they should be prefer.O.o

Thank you for kindly pointing out my obvious mistake... I didn't disable docker.

Per your reply, I did the following:

  • Settings/Docker/EnableDocker=No
  • Hit apply
  • Went back to update both appdata and system to cache:prefer.
  • Hit apply
  • Went to Main/Move Now.  Pressed the button (screen just blinks).

Now the cache size seems to be increasing (currently at 11%)... So I'll wait until it seems to have stopped increasing then re-enable docker.

Hopefully that does it.  Thank you!

Hi trurl,

Yes, I shot myself in the foot.  From reading your FAQ it is clear to me now that mover wouldn't move the files if "only" is selected.  Thanks for the link.

All I did was stop my Dockers

Move the data to the Cache drive

Point the docker settings to my Cache Drive

Restart my Dockers
