March 26, 20179 yr System specs: Asus Z9PA-D8 motherboard with: 2x E5-2670 (0) 8x 8gb samsung ECC ram 4x intel 160gb ssd So after the problem of booting the system, which was miraculously solved by removing all ssds and 1 gpu, manually set IP etc, we have another problem: I get 100% CPU usage on 1 core. De culprit is udevd. DIagnostics are attached. Also attached the dmesg output. Thanks in advance for any help! dmesg output.txt unraidvm-diagnostics-20170325-2314.zip
March 27, 20179 yr Author So I did some troubleshooting. Tried to install Proxmox tot test if its a hardware issue. It install fine, only after it wont boot properly giving me tons of errors. Udevd manages hardware, so it thought: lets try and use LSI Megaraid controller instead of the intel one. So i got the manual to see which jumper I had to change. The manual says that the intel controller is for windows use only and thus i changed from the intel to the LSI controller. But now we have ANOTHER problem. The LSI Megaraid doe not find ANY drives. I tried mechanical drives and SSD's, none of them show up. What could this be? Anyone a clue? I already did a BIOS update..
March 27, 20179 yr Community Expert If you suspect a hardware problem, you should probably start with a memtst (on boot menu) for about 24 hours.

March 30, 20179 yr Community Expert You might want to read this post: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/233247/why-is-systemd-udev-pegging-my-cpu I found with google by searching with the term udevd high cpu usage Not sure if this is your problem but I suspect that you have some device connected to your server that a device driver can't be found for.
March 30, 20179 yr Author Beat you to that one Frank! I disabled onboard sound and VGA, removed one GPU, disconnected EVERYTHING even sata drives disconnected the usb "hub" from the front of the case...Only thing I could do is disable all but nic..I kept searching and indeed one other guy reports the CPU bug error on booting RHEL and proxmox. His psu was at fault.Although I find this strange.. installing windows resulted in zero problems.. even a prolonged stress test didn't crash it.. so... Guess i should try using a different psu. Have only 500 watt units laying around.. should be enough without the gpu's...Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
