Windows not installing anymore on VM with multiple cores selected??

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my unRaid setup. Hope anyone can help me out.

Since I installed a SSD for cache and for my VM Domains it won't install Windows 10 on a OVMF setup anymore. It shows me the Windows install logo but after that the VM doesn't do anything else. The little round dots that make the loading circle won't come up either. But the VM still stays active and you can disconnect and connect to it again by VNC remote.

There is no extra hardware passed thru and no settings changed thru the unRaid GUI. Except the amount of cpu cores, the amount of Memory and the os install iso.

Everything works when I choose SeaBios instead.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Try setting the number of cores to be one just for the install.

Also try the latest version of the install ISO you can download from Microsoft

Hi Squid,

Thanks for your quick reply. The one core did the trick. ;) Installing at the moment.

Do you know why this is? Did not have to do this previously.

To be honest, I have no idea at all.  I've seen references to people having to do this on installs and on certain updates, but its never affected myself.

My pet theory on it however is that AMD chips are far better than Intel  :D

If I change the amount of cores after installation everything works just fine!
