Array drive assignments

Featured Replies

I believe I saw this somewhere but I want to ask the question to be sure.

I have some drives in my unRaid array which are SATA III but apparently connected to a 3MB/s controller instead of a 6MB/s. Can I move the cable from these drives to a 6MB/s port on the controller without changing drive assignments? I believe the answer is yes because unRaid links the drive assignment to the drive serial number. Along those same lines, I should be able to swap out controllers with one with more bandwidth, provided the motherboard can handle it which I think it will.

I know it probably isn't necessary, but I was trying to get the maximum performance out of the system.

Yes, unRAID 6 (in your sig) identifies drives by serial number. I don't know that you will see a performance improvement but you can switch.
