Replacing empty drive on unraid 6.3.2

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Quick question!

I have four drives in the array.

One of them is empty. Browsing the drive shows no objects or directories.

I don't have the parity drive just yet. I'm waiting for the initial (massive) copy of files to finish so assign the parity to improve performance.

Since I don't have any data and no parity can I just simply stop the array, replace the drive and assign the new one?

Other drives data wont be affected, right? I don't have backup yet. (I know =] )

Thanks in advance!

Correct, but you will have to set a new config to force unraid to forget the serial number of the removed drive from that slot.

Thanks for the reply.

Can I reassign the drive in any order? Does it even matter?

Assuming you don't have anything configured to expect certain things to be on certain drives, then order only matters if you have 2 parity drives.
