APC Smart-UPS with network management card & IP-control?

Featured Replies

Howdy, anyone used the apcupsd on unRAID with APC Smart-UPS with network managment card (like the AP9617) installed and being controlled via IP instead of direct RS-232 or USB connection? Any hints for the configuration?

One downside I can think of is that the entire network, i.e. switches and default gateway (router) have to be power redundant, i.e. connected to UPSes otherwise if power fails the daemon running on unRAID won't be able to connect to the UPS' IP-card.

I also have an APC Smart-UPS with a AP9617 network management card, my router and switches are also connected to the UPS. Is it possible to shutdown unRAID via IP?

Yes, it is.

You will need to use a locally edited version of the apcupsd.conf file.

I connected the UPS through serial and use the AP9617 to monitor the UPS and email notifications. It is a heck of a card and can do everything you want, also shutting down of course. But as I do not share the UPS (except with a local edge switch) I decided to connect directly, you know keep it simple goes first.
