March 29, 201016 yr I've been running UnRAID for several months, have a pro license and 4 1 TB drives, currently running 4.5.3. I always add data to it via user shares (High Water allocation, split level 3, Export read / write, no user permissions) and have no issues doing so. Because I add new storage as the other drives fill up, my drives were 93%, 90% and 29% full and so I figured I'd balance that out a little. My disk shares are exported over SMB, Read/Write, Hidden. I opened \\unraidserver\Disk1 and \\unraidserver\Disk3 and started to move data from one drive to the other. After about 5 sec the UnRAID server froze - stopped responding to pings, couldn't bring up the website, couldn't putty, etc. I forcibly rebooted it, let it check parity, then tried it again - same result. After again rebooting I tried puttying to the server and moving files with Midnight Commander - worked fine. I tried SMB again from other clients (2 Win7, 1 XP) and again experienced the freezing almost immediately. I tried dropping back to UnRAID 4.5.1, same result. I do have UnMenu installed, but no other plugins. The Win7 clients do have IPv6 enabled for HomeGroup stuff, but the XP client doesn't and again that gives the same result. I've been unable to capture the syslog when the freezing occurs, and of course the forcible server reboot blows away any history. Here's my current syslog in any case: Really more curious than anything, since writing to user shares works fine and that's what I typically use. syslog-2010-03-28.txt
March 29, 201016 yr Are you using a cache drive? Can you confirm (by refreshing and watching the unRAID web management screen) that the same disks are involved when you copy to a user share versus a disk share? Also, can you copy something from your desktop/laptop to a disk share without the server freezing?
March 29, 201016 yr Author No cache drive. When writing to the User share, it writes to Disk3 as that has the most space free. I was able to copy small items (few megs in size) to a disk share from a client PC without the server freezing, but anything more than that and it stops responding / freezes.
March 29, 201016 yr That must be some win7 related crap. Check out this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5004.45 Some people there reported that it fixed their win7 problems.
