April 6, 20179 yr Hello, ive got 32GB Sandisk Ultra fit drive (ive tough bigger better), but after using unraid (trial for now) ive find out that is using just around 500mb. So my question is: 1. if i necessary to have some amount of size or are there any other future data being written there later? 2. Or i can just use any other fast4-8gb USB 3.0 Flash as the 500mb +- size will stay forever? 3. or even olter slower one = slower boot up time or any thing else? Want to get this sorted before i buy / register some USB Flash...bigger can be used for music for my car or so Thanks
April 6, 20179 yr Usage on the flash will stay around the same more or less for the foreseeable future. Slower flash = slower boot times, but that doesn't particularly matter much as most servers do not shut off / reset very often
April 6, 20179 yr I've got 1.3GB used on a very mature installation, and very little housekeeping. Extra capacity theoretically can be used for wear leveling given a good controller, but 32GB is way excessive. Not sure I'd even recommend USB 3.0 over 2.0, I think linux 3.0 controller support is still a little flakey, considering some of the issues we've seen around the forums for booting USB 3.0. I'd definitely test out a new USB stick with a trial version of unraid for several boot cycles before assigning it a license.
