I only have one plex user and that's me. It's wgstarks. No special characters.

Could it be caused by not having any other users?

That could be it since you would not be considered a 'friend' by plex but a local user. Do you know anyone you can add real quick or maybe sign up for a second plex account, add it, and then test?

I don't have anyone I can add to test that but tried with test mode enabled in advanced.yaml and it worked exactly like I wanted it to. Since I'm just using the docker to send me notifications of added videos I'll just leave it this way. I know most people have a different use case for the docker and probably won't ever see this problem.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

No problem, glad we were able to find out the issue. I'll work with ninthwalker to add a section into the FAQ and/or see if we can put a check of some sort in place. That way we can keep track of things for future reference.

Hi noja,

What version of unRaid are you running?
Do you have any empty libraries in plex?

I'm running 6.3.3.  I had read the empty library issue earlier and I don't have any.  That being said, I had a couple of libraries with 3-4 items each which went and deleted.  Following that, I'm still unable to get NowShowing to send a report and it keeps giving me the /usr/local/sbin/combinedreport: end of file reached (EOFError) when doing any of the test reports.

That being said, the removal of those libraries did get rid of all those log errors.  So now I'm left with nothing strange showing up in the log, but the EOFError still hitting the command line and no report sent.

Can you post a picture of your docker template (make sure to omit anything you don't want shown but only change it slightly), your NowShowing folder, and your advanced config.ymal file please (again, making sure to change/omit anything that like passwords and what not)..

Ok!  I think I've attached everything.  In the docker template, I have set my user name and password for plex rather than the token.  Additionally, I do have a gmail account sending the reports.  That account is also my main account for sending me all such updates from various services, so the security settings are there to allow this type of activity.

Let me know if I missed something!

Couple things I'm noticing.

1) Your SMTP port is set to 465. It needs to be set to 587, and you might need to enable insecure applications to allow NowShowing to send on behalf of your gmail account.

2) You selected 'no' for plex emails without specifying any emails below. From the advanced_config.ymal.example:

plex:
# To be used in conjuntion with the recipients and recipients_email options below to customize who the emails go to.
# 'yes' will send to plex users emails. 'no' will NOT send to plex user emails and only send to emails and users in the recipients fields below.
  plex_user_emails: 'yes'

Please make those changes and retest. Let me know how it goes!

I had the same problem with mine. Don't know why Google specifies 465 for ssl connections.

Thanks! Everything is working perfectly now!

So a couple of reasons why I was set up the way I was.

1) my old instance of plexReport actually had my SMTP port set at 465 with successful reports - didn't realize 587 is the new standard.  Thanks!

2) The ymal.example also says that "Used if the 'plex_user_emails' is set to 'no'. Optional. ['PLEX_USER'] is yourself"  so I set it to 'no' and left the PLEX_USER...... oh damn.  Sorry I read that wrong.  For some reason I interpreted that PLEX_USER was a general statement which would automatically send the email to the default local user.  ughhhhh.... let the face palming ensue.

Ok, maybe for those of us that are brain dead 99% of the time, maybe the example could state "['PLEX_USER'] should be replaced with admin user name"

But its all working now and I'm super grateful for the hand holding!

Glad it's working for you. I'll do some testing with regards to only including PLEX_USER and setting the plex_email_flag to no.

UPDATE

Sorry to not get back to this reply for so long. I think I must have been entering the commands incorrectly.   Sorry for the confusion.  Essentially, I've been letting the automated emails go for the last few weeks and they have been running perfectly with only the desired addresses receiving them.  So my manual command was obviously incorrect, but the automated version has been working well.  Thanks again!

--------------------

Ok! Issue #2

My email settings are presenting the same problem I had with plexReport.  Essentially, I do not want to send the email to everyone on my friends list, I only want to send to a few.  To that end, I've set the plex_user_emails to 'no' and listed the people I want the email to go to.  The list is a mix of plex usernames and other addresses.

However, the email that went out this morning went to the entirety of the friends list of plex.

How do I fix that?  I'm unsure what the docker command would be for this:

Quote

-n, --no-plex-email - Do not send emails to Plex friends. Can be used with the recipients_email and recipients config file option to customize email recipients.

Something along the line of

docker exec nowshowing recipients_email -n

??

Thank you!

Thank you!

Can you post your advanced.config again. Replace the usernames/emails with [email protected] and myplexfriend or what not.

If you had plex_user_emails set to 'no' then it should not be sending to the plex.tv friends.

I use mine this way every week to only send to the emails I want. I'm posting mine below for an example with emails changed.

As for the command line version it would be the '-n' option. So it would look like this:

docker exec nowshowing emailreport -n

All the advanced file does is create a cron with that same command to run. So if you save your advanced with plex_user_emails set to 'no', extra_details 'no', test disabled, report_type: both, then the cron should look something like below.

30 23 * * * webreport -n &> /dev/null
30 10 * * 5 emailreport -n &> /dev/null

You can verify this is the case with the below command:

docker exec nowshowing cat /etc/crontabs/root

Attached is mine as an example of sending out both reports, to only the emails I have listed and my own plex account user email. No other plex account emails go out.

I seem to be having an issue getting the web page to display.  When testing, the email is generated but when I go to the web page I just get the standard

Default NowShowing Page
This will be replaced after you run your first report

I have run,

docker exec nowshowing webreport

EDIT

Never mind, im an idiot.  I was able to get the web page by browsing to the ip:6878/index.html, previously I was just browsing to ip:6878

I'm getting the same EOF error mentioned above but can't find what's wrong with my configuration.

Test reports results in no test emails and the default NowShowing Page for the web report.

Switching to using a Plex Token doesn't fix anything.

And no empty libraries.

One difference I do have but don't know if it affects anything is that I have an Anime Library that's  "TV Shows" Library type which uses the HamaTV agent and Absolute Series Scanner.  This is a typical setup for anyone with an Anime library since theTVDB does not provide as complete listings and anime style series handling (single seasons that can span multiple years and 100's of episodes).  This Library is currently ignored by plexReport without any changes to config.  I wonder if it could be tripping up NowShowing?

Help!!!

I may be wrong but it looks like a problem with the smtp settings in your container template. You may want to post a copy of that as well with passwords and such redacted.
