April 12, 20179 yr Due to an issue I've had with my motherboards SAS dieing, I've decided it's time for an upgrade. Already started by buying a really big new case in the Lian Li D8000. Due to me living at my parents, because the case is much much bigger I'm having to put this in my bedroom. I'm currently using the Samsung 840 Evo 1TB as my cache drive, it's been in about a year or so. Now I was reading up another thread, which suggested that TLC SSDs would be a bad idea to use as cache because they don't take an awful lot of writes before dying. Saw some article about the 840 dying after writing about 900TBs of data. To be fair, I probably won't write near that, my current server is 30TB, and I have plans to increase this to 72-76TB. I do have Sab downloading most of my data, so it has to obviously Unpack a file, which means data is essentially being written twice. Even still, that won't put me close to the 900TB of the tested failed drive. Anyway, shall I stick with this 1TB Evo, or shall I replace it with another drive? If so, what's the quietest known HDD out there?
