April 17, 20179 yr Hi, Im very new to unraid, and have a few questions: 1. How many LAN ports can I install in unraid? Because currently I have 5 LAN ports, 1 quad pcie and 1 builtin. One of the ports (the last port) in the quad ports is not working on unraid but is perfectly fine on other OS. 2. Also under settings -> Network settings. In bonding mode i chose balance-rr then a notification appears on the right saying "this mode requires a switch with proper setup and support". I already configured the switch, how do I know that its working properly? In windows 7, I can use the test switch feature in my NICs driver. 3. Can I have multiple bridge connections? Because I have a new motherboard with 4 builtin LAN ports plus my existing quad port pcie. I wanted to bond the 4 builtin LAN ports to be used for unraids file server, and the other 4 lan ports to be bonded again and be used for VMs. Plus I have 3 dual ports pcie for future use. Thanks, Karl
April 17, 20179 yr 1. By default unRAID sets up a bond interface with the first 4 interfaces it finds, this can be extended to any number of interfaces available in the system. See the Network Settings page to change the bond members. 2. This notification is given to tell the user that a proper switch set up is required, it doesn't check whether the set up is correct nor is there a direct test feature present. You could verify though the working of the bond by checking the interface counters which are shown on the Dashboard page. 3. Current implementation allows for a single bond interface which must include interface 'eth0'. Upcoming version will have the possibility to define multiple bond interfaces.
April 18, 20179 yr Author Hi bonienl, Thank you for the reply. Regarding #1, but unraid only shows 4 out of 5 lan ports in the settings page. Its like the 5th ethernet port is disabled. Even if I plug a cable to it. But it does work/blink on other OS or on boot then stops when unraid is loaded.
April 18, 20179 yr Looking at the MAC addresses, it seems the four ports on your controller are all recognized, but the port on your motherboard is not. Is it disabled in the BIOS?
April 18, 20179 yr Author Actually thats a new motherboard with 5 built in LAN ports. Didnt install the network cards yet because im still having trouble with my array. Everything is enabled though in the BIOS.
April 18, 20179 yr What does Tools -> System Devices show? Do you see all 5 ethernet controllers there under PCI devices? This is what I have (also 5 interfaces) [8086:1521] 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01) [8086:1521] 01:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01) [8086:1521] 01:00.2 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01) [8086:1521] 01:00.3 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01) [10ec:8168] 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. April 18, 20179 yr Author http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=EP2C602-4L/D16#Specifications It does say ipmi. So does that mean it cant be used like the other intel ports?
April 18, 20179 yr IPMI is a dedicated management port for your motherboard, it can not be used together with the regular ethernet ports.
April 18, 20179 yr Community Expert BTW, don't connect any disks to the 4 Marvell ports (first 4 white) as they are known to have many issues on those boards and constantly drop disks. Edited April 18, 20179 yr by johnnie.black
