April 19, 20179 yr Hi all, I have been having issues in trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 as a VM, under unRAID v6.3.3. When booting up the ISO to start installing, the VM gets as far as the loading logo and doesn't shift from there - no resources are under heavy load and it will sit there for hours. I have checked that the ISO works, and I have checked all my BIOS and VM settings, all seems to be setup correctly (from what I can tell). Have tried with both SeaBIOS and OVMF, and both i440fx and Q35 types. All combinations will freeze at exactly the same point. Current configuration shown in attachment. Hardware: Dell Poweredge R310, Xeon X3440, 16GB RAM, VT-x is enabled. I have had success with older versions of unRAID v6 in the past, so I don't understand why this is not working anymore. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
April 19, 20179 yr try installing with 1 cpu assigned only. once it's done, increase to more cpus. that issue occurs across several windows products and even on updates.
April 19, 20179 yr Author Tried it with only CPU0 set. It has been on the attached screen for 10 minutes now...not promising. From past experience, it should get to the install screen in 5 minutes or less...correct me if this is not right now.
April 19, 20179 yr Author Thank you so much 1812 and jonathanm! I'm not sure if it's the change to Cirrus or the combination, but it is now working. Does anyone have an explanation as to why these things might be an issue?
