New build, some issues brewing

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I've just begun to dive into unraid (I'm not a stranger to linux, fortunately).  Anyways, I've migrated my WHS to unraid, and currently now this is what I have:

Intel DG41TY MB

Intel Pentium E6300

1 x 1GB OCZ DDR2 800

Data

1 x 1.5TB Seagate ST31500341AS

1 x 1TB Samsung HD103UJ

Parity

1 x 2TB Seagate ST32000540AS

Anyways, I'm getting some read errors on the Samsung drive, I've copied my past bin here: http://pastebin.com/C8GyEUgt

I'm looking on some advice on what to do with it, as you can see from the pastebin I also have a WD WD2002FYPS-01U1B0 drive that I was going to replace the parity drive with, but at this point in time I don't know if that would be a very smart move.  Thanks in advance, Derek.

check SMART.  If that looks OK then try a new cable.

You have lots of various disk errors reported in your syslog.

But before we get to the disk errors, we see some weird ACPI related messages:

Mar 31 19:34:41 UNRAID kernel: ACPI Warning: 32/64 FACS address mismatch in FADT - two FACS tables! (20090903/tbfadt-369)
Mar 31 19:34:41 UNRAID kernel: ACPI Warning: 32/64X FACS address mismatch in FADT - 3DB5BF40/000000003DB60F40, using 32 (20090903/tbfadt-486)
Mar 31 19:34:41 UNRAID kernel: ACPI Exception: AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT, Index (0FFFFFFFF) is beyond end of object (20090903/exoparg2-445)
Mar 31 19:34:41 UNRAID kernel: ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.IDE1.GTM_] (Node f7413858), AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT
Mar 31 19:34:41 UNRAID kernel: ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.IDE1.CHN1._GTM] (Node f7413798), AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT
Mar 31 19:34:41 UNRAID kernel: ata2: ACPI get timing mode failed (AE 0x300b)

The above may mean that you have buggy ACPI in your BIOS.

Check if there is any BIOS update for that mobo, and/or try booting with the "acpi=off" option in your syslinux.cfg

Do that and post a new syslog.

Thanks for the help!  The drive passed the SMART test without issue, and there was a loose SATA cable.  It was perfect timing for my 5-pack of cables from mwave to show up.  There also was a BIOS update dated 3/1/10, and now the ACPI errors are gone.  I'll be keeping an eye on the syslog.  Thank you guys again for your help.

Daldridge,

How do you find the mobo? Only 4 sata ports isn't ideal, do you have a sata pcie card to expand sata ports?

I have this same mobo, and am about to start my unraid server build.
