unRAIDServer-6.3.3 - Hard Drive Setup\Array Help

Featured Replies

HI all,

I am installing what will be my "final" setup before I buy Unraid and wanted some pointers to know if my general idea of Hard drive setup is Logical or could use some tweaking :)  I am very new to Unraid and watched some guides and Linuxtech Youtube video about how it works (That is what got me to this product)

Here is the list of Hard drives i have in setup:

1 x SSD 250GB

5 x SSD 120GB

5 x HDD 1TB             4 are connected in a 4 Disk Cage that is going to a PCIE X1 slot controler, 1 Others directly on mainboard

1 X HDD 3TB

Ok, I want to use this as my gaming rig.  Hardware works fine for what i want, tried it and am really happy about the performance (i7 Skylake cpu, 970 Nvidia card sent to Windows 10)

And some plex, backup, storage server, owncload etc etc.

What i was thinking is putting All the 1tb drives in one Array and using THe 1 3TB for Parity

1 x ssd 250 will be sent directly to the Windows Install, 1 ssd 120 will also be dedicated to Windows 10

Now, for the other 4 SSD, should I make all of them part of the Cache Drive? does it give a worth for the "money" or simply overkill?  I know from videos that we should have 2 for security, but does 4 disk make it worthwhile?  I could use the 4 disk in Cache and give some storage there for some VM that dont use 120 gig of data so it would be a waste to dedicate a disk for nothing instead.

Thank you very much for any help on this.

If anything is unclear, please dont hesitate to let me know.

Edit: Change HDD drive setup from 6 1tb to 5 drives and 1 3tb (underlined)
