GRUB install fails on Debian VM - fatal error

I set up a VM and got to the point in my Debian installation where GRUB is to install.  It fails.  Am using SeaBIOS.  (Saw a comment on that somewhere and thought I'd mention it.)  Any suggestions?

    having the same problem, any ubuntu install with all default settings fails at Grub-install fatal error screen.  Windows 10 vm, no issues.
