2 disks are disabled

Featured Replies

I'm running unraid 6.3.3

disks 4 and 5 are both showing as disabled, fortunately I'm running dual parity

I've attached a copy of my syslog and it looks to me like both disks had read errors on the 18th April

I assume thast why they are disabled?

I'm busy copying off any must have data at present but my question is what to do next?

judging by the fact that the same 2 serial numbers shown as disabled are also both showing in unassigned devices, this suggest to me that the drives are now visible to unraid again but are just disabled from the array?

I've tried running a smart report onthem but they state that this can;t be done as the drive cannot be spun up.

I'm tempted to rebuild them both from parity and see how things go, good or bad idea?

We typically don't want your syslog. Go to Tools - Diagnostics and post the complete diagnostics zip. Diagnostics contains syslog(s), SMART for all disks, and many other useful things.

unRAID disables a disk only due to write errors. The failed write on the disk and any subsequent writes to the disk update parity and so are emulated by the array. This means the actual disks contents are no longer valid, but the valid data is in the array waiting for you to rebuild.

Diagnostics will allow us to see the SMART for the disks so we can better tell what caused the problem.

Are both of these disks on the same controller?

Disk4 doesn't look so good. Was it not giving you warnings in the Dashboard before now?

Serial Number: 5XW1EM5Q
5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 005 005 036 Pre-fail Always FAILING_NOW 3916

Do you have Notifications setup?

Both disks dropped offline at the same time, could be a controller issue or a cable problem, looks more like a cable problem, do they share a power splitter by any chance?

I'm guessing no since both disks were disabled 2 weeks ago.

Also agree that disk4 should be replaced even if it looks like it wasn't the problem this time.

Disk 4 wasn't giving any warnings no.

I don't have notifications setup, I'll do so
