Help Needed Forgot My login and password

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how I can recover from a forgotten login ID and password? I must have changed it because the deafult is not working.

If you're talking about the server console, there's no default password. Login with user root, without password.

The default of root and no password is not working I don't know if I changed it.

Is unRAID's web interface still available? You can reboot the server from there.

No, I built the system in January bought a single pro license, had some issues and tore the system apart, Now I want to try again and when the system boots I get to the login but root and no password entry will not login so i'm thinking I changed it, I downloaded the basic on another flash and it boots fine and I can login ok. I don't know if I can blow away the original flash drive with the pro license and re-create it or not, I certainly do not want to pay another $100.00 + to re purchase it.

There is no password inside the boot image. If you installed a password and did something to make it persistent accross reboots, then you must have added something 'fancy' to your go script. But then you would remember that. In any case, you can plug that flash key in any other computer and examine the contents of the 'go' script. Compare it to a stock 'go' script and you'll remember what you changed.

The passwd file is saved on the flash drive bu the stock unRAID distribution, so it you set a password, it is still going to be there when you reboot.  There is no need for you to do anything to make it persistent.

First, make sure you do not have the CAPS LOCK key on, it would prevent your password from being accepted.

Then, if you still cannot log on, you'll need to unplug the flash drive, delete the config/passwd file, plug it back onto the server and reboot.

Since you have no other choice, you might need to hit the reset button on the server, or try logging in as "shutdown"

Thanks All, deleting the config/passwd file allowed me to login as root.
