Cost of multiple licenses?

Featured Replies

I cannot find this info on the site and I also emailed a few days ago. I remember reading its $20-30 extra for 2nd license? I want to buy 2 Pro keys.

Not any more. That policy was in place before the key replacement was automated, and was intended to allow a backup key to be purchased to avoid extended downtime if a USB drive failed. All licenses are full price now, with the possible exception of much higher quantities negotiated directly with Tom.

I see :( I guess that's why I couldn't find anything about this.

Also this is not a complaint, but I've seen many people post about how they have 2+ licenses purchased cheaply using the old policy, and I'm sure it could be considered abuse of the policy, but as a new user it does seem unfair that I missed the chance.

The cheap offers were before v6 was generally available.  That means anyone talking about this has already been a long time unRAID user.  I suspect most such users would have purchased the additional license even without the discount - they just might not have bought them as early.

At one point in the early v6 beta days it was promoted with the idea of users being encouraged to try running a v6 beta release without upsetting their existing v5 system.  Also the 'free' v5 license had such a low attached devices limit (3 devices) that it did not allow for realistic testing of unRAID features.   I think nowadays such users would just be encouraged to try a trial license.

The 2-pack was indeed a very good deal; but it's been gone for years.   As noted above, the new fully automated key replacement process really eliminates the need for a back-up USB flash, which was the reason for the 2-pack.    There was also a short period when you could buy a 2nd key inexpensively to encourage folks to "test drive" the beta versions of v6.

But as already noted, those days are long past >:(
