May 11, 20179 yr Hi, After adding a parity disk to my array and it starting building, i got the following email: Quote Event: unRAID Parity sync / Data rebuildSubject: Notice [TOWER] - Parity sync / Data rebuild finished (729 errors)Description: Duration: 10 hours, 35 minutes, 32 seconds. Average speed: 104.9 MB/sImportance: warning Also the Current_Pending_Sector count for the drive was increased from 0 to 12 and Raw_Read_Error_Rate from 0 to 14. I run the extended SMART test but it failed with 10% remaining due to read failure. But from what I read, the test stops at the first read problem. So, is there any point repeating the test in hopes that it will complete successfully? The drive is around 3yo and was used in another NAS before, but the preclear i run on it came out alright, with no problems. Is the disk failing and should replace it, or can I try to run preclear on it again in the hope that the Current_Pending_Sector will go down, since there is still no reallocated sectors? Also, after pre-clearing the disk, I changed the connection from an internal sata port to an H310 controller. So, is there a chance that the disk is ok, and the problem with the reads is due to low quality cabling? This is the one I have used https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01HZFUNVS/ Thanks in advance for any help. WDC_WD30EFRX-68EUZN0_WD-WMC4N1988451-20170511-0942.txt
May 11, 20179 yr Author Thanks for the input. I already ordered a replacement, but do you think it is worth keeping this one as a spare if the pending sectors go away after a preclear, or is it gone?
May 11, 20179 yr Community Expert Maybe on a backup server, would never used it on a main server, but it's just my opinion, others do it.
