May 12, 20179 yr This may sound like I'm trying to get around the drive limit that comes with the basic license of unRaid but I only want a USB hard drive drive visible to my Windows Server 2016 VM so that I can use Windows Server Backup. The problem I currently have, is if I just pass the device through from the dashboard, unRaid see's it as another device so the array won't start even though it's an unassigned drive, if I installed a USB3 card and isolate it from unRaid so that it doesn't see the devices attached to it through the dashboard?
May 12, 20179 yr Drive limit only applies to starting the array, so just plug it in after the array is already up.

May 15, 20179 yr if you stub the USB PCIe add on card and have that passed through to the VM, devices plugged into it will only be detected by that VM. UnRaid wouldnt see the USB HDD.
