[Support] Djoss - HandBrake

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I'm trying to passthrough my i5-11400 igpu to use quicksync (already have it working in Plex for transcoding), however the logs are showing:

Quote

[cont-init.d] 95-check-qsv.sh: Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11400 @ 2.60GHz
[cont-init.d] 95-check-qsv.sh: Intel Quick Sync Video not supported: device /dev/dri/renderD128 not found.

Is something perhaps wrong with my passthrough?

Edit: I think I may have found the problem, but why is the docker looking for D128 instead of D129?

Have you tried the x11vnc '-ncache' VNC client-side pixel caching feature yet?

The scheme stores pixel data offscreen on the VNC viewer side for faster
retrieval. It should work with any VNC viewer. Try it by running:

x11vnc -ncache 10 ...

One can also add -ncache_cr for smooth 'copyrect' window motion.

You mean that the automatic video converted failed to encode a file ?

Conversion log is located at /mnt/user/appdata/HandBrake/log/hb/conversion.log

Note that it will not re-encode the same video again if it failed once.  Try removing the source from the watch folder and re-add it.  You can also remove /mnt/user/appdata/HandBrake/failed_conversions and restart the container

Do you hava another GPU ?  I'm not sure why you have card1/renderD129 instead of card0/renderD128.

But anyway, these are just informational messages.  Did you check if HandBrake is actually able to use QSV ?

You mean that the automatic video converted failed to encode a file ?

Conversion log is located at /mnt/user/appdata/HandBrake/log/hb/conversion.log

Note that it will not re-encode the same video again if it failed once.  Try removing the source from the watch folder and re-add it.  You can also remove /mnt/user/appdata/HandBrake/failed_conversions and restart the container

I'm not seeing any files in the hb subdirectory..??

Do you hava another GPU ?  I'm not sure why you have card1/renderD129 instead of card0/renderD128.

But anyway, these are just informational messages.  Did you check if HandBrake is actually able to use QSV ?

My server has no dGPU and uses the iGPU of the 11400 only.  I was messing around with my VM yesterday and passing through my iGPU but it is now set to VNC so the iGPU should be free to be used for dockers? Quicksync is still working fine with Plex.  I have no option for QSV in Handbrake unfortunately:

Ok I tried restarting my entire server and now I am able to see the QSV options... looks like a good old reset did the trick!

I ended up having a corrupt docker image..  Deleted and recreated, seems like things are running without crashing everything now. However, when Handbrake picks up a file to transcode it errors out with:

[autovideoconverter] Starting conversion of '/watch/movies/Nash Bridges (2021)/Nash Bridges.mkv' (0315ba4551bf2d83613ab40563962bee) using preset '/General/myh265'...
[autovideoconverter] 1 title(s) to process.
mktemp: failed to create directory via template ‘/mnt/user/Downloads_Postprocessing/complete//.XXXXXX’: No such file or directory
[autovideoconverter] ERROR: Failed to create temporary directory under '/mnt/user/Downloads_Postprocessing/complete/'.
[autovideoconverter] Conversion failed.
[autovideoconverter] For more details about the failure, see /config/log/hb/conversion.log.

When I go to the Handbrake console and look for /config/log/hb, the directory exists, but the conversion.log file does not exist...??

The directory definitely exists.  Attaching diagnostics.

Ok, there seemed to be an underlying permissions issue somewhere, so I think I've got that fixed.  When trying to encode a video to H.265, I'm now getting this in the logs:

I am getting a cannot read or write the directory so I must have misspecified the output directory.

Here is the error message?

Here is what I have:

What should I have here?

How do I add the option to allow Intel QuickSync?  In the Github page it talks about /dev/dri setting.  I tried the add new device and I get this dialog box.  What do I add for these parameters?  Do I add

Do you get the same problem when encoding with the same preset using the UI?

In container's settings, you can add a new "Device" and set the value to "/dev/dri/".

Thanks - does the name matter or is that just a non-functional label?  So I can just set the name to QuickSync and the value to "/dev/dri" and the description to whatever...

What is the proper syntax for the device setting to be able to use QuickSync?

Or put it in Extra Parameters.

Then create a preset in HandBrake that uses QSV and make that preset the default in the HandBrake Docker container.

The conversion log shows that QSV fails to initialize.  This is a known issue that occurs with some CPU models.

You may want to use a software encoder, until the problem is fixed.

I switched to software and the file encoded correctly, no issues.  No server lockups... looking good!  I suspect this is an issue with the current driver in Kernel rc2?  Hopefully rc3 will fix it?

Good question.  Do you know if this was working with unRAID 6.9.2 ?
