CANCELLED!

Disc 3 fixed. Off to buy parts. I have a PCI slot drive expansion card. I've replaced it at least twice before, I wonder if it isnt causing issues. I'll see which 2 drives are on it and may just get rid of enough stuff to eliminate that card until I decide to upgrade the whole thing. Thanks again to everybody!

Did you actually upgrade from UnRAID v3 ??   The oldest download I have available is v4.5.1, and that's from Feb 2010 ... so v3 was even older.

Do you by chance have a screenshot of the GUI from before you did the upgrade?

Also, what is the hardware you're running on?   If the system is truly 8 years old (or older) you may have some performance issues with v6, which is far more demanding than the very early versions were.    It DOES run okay on older hardware -- my oldest system is circa 2010 and it runs v6 just fine (although I don't run VMs, etc. with it).   Just curious what your detailed config is.

He's using >2TB disks, so it couldn't be v3

Ahh ... I hadn't even looked -- just read the thread and was surprised anyone was running a version that old.

... looking more closely, Texanfan joined the forum in 2012, and has never posted until this thread.    So I suspect he built a v5 system (running a v5 RC, which would be a mid-2012 download); used it until recently; then upgraded it to v6, and is now having the issues noted here.

It was version 5 rc3. Sorry to be misleading.

I bought a new drive. What do you recommend? Should I do a parity check first, then install the drive to do a preclear replacing the bad drive or just take the bad drive out now?

  • Community Expert

I would preclear the drive first to make sure there are no issues with it.

When was the last time you did a parity check and what were the results of that?

It's been awhile and everything said it went okay, but like before something is really wrong because I'm still not showing any of my tv shows. If i click on each drive individually I can still see them and my drives are showing pretty full but otherwise I can't get to them.

That implies filesystem corruption may still exist, post new diagnostics.

Alright, finally finished new drive install, preclear and parity check. Still having issues with drive 3. I did reiserfsck check and fix again but it still says drive 3 read only.

If reiserfsck can't fix it, copy everything on disk3 to other disk(s), format disk3 (take the opportunity to change to xfs), restore data.

This is probably where I get lost in lingo. Do you have an instructional link? If it says parity is good can I just take the array offline format it and rebuild parity?

No, if you format the disk you delete all data on it, you need to copy all data off it, format, then copy data back.

I'm not sure how to transfer information from just that disk. Can you point me in the right direction.

I have to go to work so it may be tomorrow before I can start on it.

First, Stop Array, then go to 'Settings'   >>>   'Global Share Settings.  Enable Disk Shares.  Restart array.   Now go to 'Shares'   >>>  "Disk Shares' and verify that the disk you are interested in is properly shared.  IF not, click on that disk under the "Name' column.

Now copy all of the files that you can from that disk to another disk outside of the array.
