May 29, 20179 yr Author RESOLVED Replaced all three TRENDnet switches with Netgear GS605NA Gigabit switches and ran the default network setup (with powerline adapters) Buttery smooth on all files Thank you all for the ideas (heads to porch with large hammer and the TRENDnet switches)
May 29, 20179 yr I suspect that the large hammer has already taken care of the TRENDnet switches ... but I also suspect that you likely had a defective port on one of those switches which was running at 100Mb (I've seen this on several switches over the years from multiple brands). In any event, it was an easy fix. Networking issues usually are "easy" -- but notoriously difficult to diagnose [bad switch port; defective pair in a cable; etc.] ... especially when you have a fairly involved topology. [I definitely understand that, as I've had my share of issues -- my network has two routers (one configured as a 2nd access point), and six switches.]
May 29, 20179 yr I second that, but wait till you come to work with the "professional" gear and enter witchcraft domain
May 29, 20179 yr I've had packet horrible lag issues with TRENDnet switches in the past. All my issues were resolved once they were replaced. Here's one of the sites that tipped me off to what my possible issue might be back in 2014: https://wdtz.org/mysterious-lag-spikes-and-faulty-switches.html and an Amazon Review: https://www.amazon.com/review/R2WV1S555TK8PU/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0044GJ516&linkCode=&nodeID=
