I have this running on my Windows 7 machine to my iphone and it's pretty awsome. I'm thinking that running directly from unRAID to an iPad would be more so!

I wanted to look into it, too, but decided to test the transcoding power of an old Mac Mini (1.66GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM) first. Much to my surprise, the Mac Mini can simultaneously live-transcode 3 different movies off of unRAID servers without discernible problems, and I just left it at that. (Going to 4 movies won't work, though.)

 

The only (relatively minor) advantage to doing it this way is that there's just 1 Air Video server to connect to, serving both my unRAID servers.

 

That said, I'm still interested in running Air Video natively under unRAID.

I've been giving it a go. I've got as far as installing the packages (that it complains about when trying to run it), being able to connect to the "server" (my test unRAID box), can view the folders & files *WITH THUMBNAILS*, but when I choose "play with live conversion" it is unable to play. Screenshot attached!

 

It's got something to do with ffmpeg I think. I've tried ffmpeg-20081102-i486-1gds.tgz and the ffmpeg file posted by "Admin" over at the airvideo forum but keps crapping out with the following error:

 

DEBUG: Encoder: /usr/bin/ffmpeg: unrecognized option '--conversion-id'

 

I am now in well above my head so not sure what to do next. Do I need to compile my own ffmpeg (in which case I'm screwed because I don't have a clue how)?

 

Can anyone help? I feel like I'm nearly there (but probably far from it!!! )

 

 

****** UPDATE: ******The problem is certainly something to do with the conversion. If I browse to a pre-converted .m4v then it works!

The --conversion-id is an argument included in the Airvideo build of ffmpeg. I've tried to compile a binary for ffmpeg but now I get an  libx264 encoder error.

 

I'm in way above my head and have been fumbling for days (you could fit all I know of Linux on the back of a postage stamp..)

 

Does no-one have this working
