Running unRAID on 802.1X network

Featured Replies

So I've been trying to get my unraid setup running on an enterprise network provided by my university (I am just a student here), and i am unable to figure out how to authenticate myself on the network. Any ideas?

Cheers!

Bump. Any help?

Are you simply trying to get Internet access or looking to do something more?

I need internet access to get my license.

One user here simply got himself a router to authenticate on the schools network and then plugged everything into it.

Not an option since that is not exactly allowed in my uni :(

Wait, so you are allowed to run a linux based server, but not a router? How about spooling up a pfsense box and use that to authenticate, or a windows box with a second ethernet bridged to the authenticated interface?

What other computer restrictions are you dealing with? I'm sure if you outline what you are allowed and not allowed to do we can get you a workable option.

I suspect what actually isn't allowed is rebroadcasting wifi, not specifically routers.

I am not allowed to create custom endpoints for the school network. I assume that the windows option is okay, but i know for a fact that adding another router is not allowed.

if you only need Internet to activate unRAID, does your cell phone support tethering/wifi hotspot? Get a cheap wireless router and connect it to phone and run cable to server. Enable, activate, disable. Rinse/repeat next time.
