I have running UnRaid in ESXi as a guest and the disk is running on a flash drive.   I've tried both the manual way and through the plugin.   The plugin even says update successful but when I reboot it still says 6.1.6.   Any advice will be appreciated.

    Have you updated the location you are booting off?   If you are running in a VM environment it is probably not the USB stick (which is what the plugin would have updated).
