Is anyone using freeipmi tool to control PWM fan on Supermicro MB?

Featured Replies

I am having problem with my fans on Supermicro X9SCM-F.  Fans seem to be revving up and down.  Upon reading a few posts, people say lower the lowest threshold to lower than the fan's specs.  All say use freeipmi.  Can anyone share with me how to install freeipmi?

Thanks

hi wgstarks, I have that installed already, and reading the link, it says "IPMI fan control is supported for Asrock boards only."  In my case, indeed, you cannot enable fan control.  It's grayed out.

That's correct. You can still use it to edit your fan settings though. Just no automated fan control yet.

Thanks. Does it mean if I set the lower threshold, it will still be automatically revved up when needed? Just won't go up nd down like crazy?

I would suggest posting these questions in the ipmi support thread. Lots of people there with a lot more experience with this.
