April 11, 201016 yr Before using these drives should anything be changed with the feature tool that is available for that purpose from Hitachi, or should they be used as they come out of the oem box?
April 11, 201016 yr Mine were just fine from the factory. I have 2 in the array, one as parity and one as data.
April 11, 201016 yr I'm burning in 3 of these right now. Parity running at ~60 KB/sec on a Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 controller. I've read lots of reviews about them running loud and hot, but mine seem to be cool and quiet (31 Celsius 2 hours into parity check). I installed them as is out of the retail box.
April 11, 201016 yr I have two (one as parity and one as data). It slowed my array slightly. They replaced Seagate 7200 1.5TBs. I did use them straight out of the box, after pre-clearing them.
April 11, 201016 yr Parity running at ~60 KB/sec on a Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 controller. That's a typo, right?
April 11, 201016 yr Parity running at ~60 KB/sec on a Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 controller. That's a typo, right? Oops... 3 new Hitachi's (2 data, 1 parity) testing on new system (Supermicro MBD-X7SBE MB with AOC-SAT2-MV8 in PCI-x 133 slot). Speeds are about the same on either MB SATA ports or Card ports sync done. time=34164sec rate=57180K/sec This compared to 8 Seagate 340AS 1 TB drives running parity on GB EP35-DS3R MB ports sync done. time=14158sec rate=68990K/sec So, yes, the Hitachi's are a bit slower.
April 12, 201016 yr i use 2tb ones in unraid. no issues, no heat issues, no noise problems. final average parity check time is 96MB/sec.
