April 11, 201016 yr Hi All, I've heard P4 kills your wallet and i3 is more green so I am planning to upgrade to a i3 system. Another main reason for the upgrade is the P4 can't transcode VC1 and RMVB on the fly with PS3MediaServer. I've been looking around for a LGA 1156 board with a PCI-X slot support since I have a AOC-SAT2-MV8 card in my P4 on the PCI slot already. I've found Supermicro C7SIM-Q http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Core/Q57/C7SIM-Q.cfm I am a bite confused with this board. It says 1 (x4) (using x16 slot) PCI-Express. Does this mean once I put my AOC-SAT2-MV8 on the x4 slot that I can no longer use the x16 slot? I currently have 10 disks so it's not affecting me right now but I do plan to buy another AOC-SAT2-MV8 or AOC-SASLP-MV8 later. 1 (x16) PCI-Express 2.0 1 (x4) (using x16 slot) PCI-Express, 1 PCI-E x1 1 32-bit PCI Btw, I am still on a planning phase. If someone have a better recommendation for a i3 board, please let me know. thanks in advance, ~joy
April 11, 201016 yr It means it's electrically/signal level 4-lane PCI Express slot using a physical 16-lane PCI Express slot. You should be able to use all of the PCI Express slots at the same time.
April 11, 201016 yr By the way, your AOC-SAT2-MV8 won't work on that slot. PCI-X != PCI Express (PCIe)
April 11, 201016 yr Author doh! I guess finding a PCI-X slot on a i3 board is the same as looking for a AGP slot on a lga 775 board.
