June 12, 20179 yr Hello all, I've been using UnRaid for a couple of months now and loving it. Unfortunately, I was a bit of a n00b when I got setup and so I did some things incorrectly. At the moment, I have 3 disks. 2 x 3TB and 1 x 5TB. What I should've done during setup was make the 5TB drive a parity drive and had 3 x 3TB drives. Instead I made them all data drives. Well now I realize I need a parity drive but the 5TB drive is 26% full. I want to pull it and make it the parity drive.. So the question is - how do I take the data off of the 5TB drive and offload it to the other 3TB drives so that I can pull it and make it a parity drive? Does this make sense? I've read through the Wiki but everything listed mentions parity and I don't want to lose data. The other posts all are from people looking for help reassigning an empty drive. Mine has data on it. I appreciate any suggestions you may have.
June 13, 20179 yr Couple of different ways. If you're already familiar with running docker apps, then I would install the Dolphin app, and then copy from /mnt/diskX to /mnt/diskY (the 5TB to the 3TB) Alternatively, you can also use midnight commander at the command prompt (mc). Or, you can enable Disk Shares and do everything over the network. The important thing to do is to never use both user shares and disk shares at the same time when doing this. Only use a disk share (/mnt/diskX) for both the source and destination. Data loss will result otherwise. After all the copying / moving is done, go to Tools - New Config, and reassign the drives as appropriate.
June 13, 20179 yr unBalance plugin will also move files off a specific disk to other specified disks.
June 13, 20179 yr Author Thanks so much to both of you. When I use the unBalance plugin I get tons of permission errors. So I ran the Docker Safe new permissions tool and when I go back to unBalance I still get a lot of permissions errors so I'm scared to do anything....

I've tried running the permissions fix tool many times but I always get the permissions errors in unbalance. Thanks again for all the help. tower-diagnostics-20170613-1114.zip
June 13, 20179 yr Try disabling dockers and VM's so there are no files open on disk1 before you try to move them.

Ok after doing that I'm a little better off - There are some permission issues with the folders/files you want to move 0 file(s)/folder(s) with an owner other than 'nobody' 0 file(s)/folder(s) with a group other than 'users' 201 folder(s) with a permission other than 'drwxrwxrwx' 2693 files(s) with a permission other than '-rw-rw-rw-' or '-r--r--r--' You can find more details about which files have issues in the log file (/boot/logs/unbalance.log) At this point, you can move the folders/files if you want, but be advised that it can cause errors in the operation You are STRONGLY suggested to install the Fix Common Problems plugin, then run the Docker Safe New Permissions command Should I go ahead and run it or would I be better off fixing those files? I already tried the Fix Common Problems plugin (again).
June 13, 20179 yr Go ahead and run it. I suspect if you "fix" the issues you will break your plex library and possibly some of your other dockers. The permissions are likely specific to your containers, instead of being generic for unraid share usage.

I really appreciate all the help guys. Hopefully this thread will be helpful to someone else who is having the same issue!
