[solved (kinda)] Moving away from bare-metal

I have an install of Ubuntu 17.04 on a 525GiB SSD. I want to move this into an unRAID virtual machine, which will live on a 1TiB HDD.

How do I do this?

I'd recommend backing up your user profiles and doing a fresh VM then restore your user profile to the new VM.

Sorry, that won't work for me because parts of the OS outside of home directories have been modified.

Although I'm still interested in copying the entire contents of the SSD into a virtual disk. Ideas, anyone?
