What's the diff between AOC-SAT2-MV8 on pci, pci-x 100 and pci-133 slot?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am planning to upgrade my P4 to i3 lga 1156 board but I've yet to find a pci-x slot on those boards. I am curious what's the benefit of having AOC-SAT2-MV8 on pci-x 133 over pci and pci-x 100 slot. Do you gain a lot of write performance or just read and parity check performance or both?

Depending on the performance, I am debating i3 540 + regular pci slot or Supermicro MBD-X7SBE-O + E7500 build. For those who are wondering why i3 540 or E7500 because I need to run PS3MediaServer to transcode VC1 and RMVB on the fly.

thanks,

PCI in theory is capable of 133MB/s. In Practice I achieved around 80MB/s.

PCI-X is capable of 66mhz, 100mhz, 133mhz but at 64 bits wide.

PCI-X 133mhz is close to the speed of PCIe x4.

It's not so much write or read performance.

If you are only using one drive, it will go as fast as the drive and bus can handle.

It's when you access multiple drives simultaneously and in multiple directions that you'll notice the speed limits on a PCI bus.

You may want to consider a later processor i3 and a board with at least 2 x4 PCIe slots.

Then go with the AOC-SASLP-MV8 and the proper cables.

Speed will be good, cables neat (albeit at extra cost).

If you want a "simple" setup with remote management, the X7SBE and AOC-SATA-MV8's are tried and proven to be reliable.
